Response of Culex quinquefasciatus to visual stimuli.

چکیده
The vision of Culex quinquefasciatus was studied in the laboratory. The attractiveness of colors (black, white, brown, yellow, blue, a skin tone) was evaluated with respect to the collection of Cx. quinquefasciatus in natural light, in the dark, and in ultraviolet light. Culex quinquefasciatus prefers both black and brown in natural light and ultraviolet light, but, as expected, there is no preference in the dark. There were no significant differences among the other 4 colors in natural light and ultraviolet light.

Toxic Response of Mosquito Culex Quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae) to some Agricultural Pesticides (Butachlor and Pertilachlor)
Background: The expansion of herbicide used in aquatic ecosystems as well as in terrestrial if is not properly controlled may produce harmful effects on freshwater fisheries. Residue limits of these agricultural chemicals in tropical fishery waters should be established. The aim of this study was to determine the acute toxicity of butachlor and pertilachlor as potential dangerous herbicides to ...

Resistance to insecticides has persuaded researchers to find new methods to control Culex quinquefasciatus proliferation. Plants may be a source of alternative agents for mosquito control due to ever-growing insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and environmental imbalance caused by synthetic insecticides. The present study was intended to study the larvicidal activity of selected Cyathea ...
متن کاملThe response of Culex quinquefasciatus (Diptera: culicidae) to traps baited with carbon dioxide, 1-octen-3-ol, acetone, butyric acid and human foot odour in Tanzania.
The responses of Culex quinquefasciatus Say to traps baited with carbon dioxide, 1-octen-3-ol, acetone, butyric acid and human foot odour were studied in the field in Muheza, north-east Tanzania using Counterflow Geometry (CFG) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) traps. It was found that significantly more C. quinquefasciatus responded to foot odour collected on nylon stockings than to clean ...
متن کاملAcute olfactory response of Culex mosquitoes to a human- and bird-derived attractant.
West Nile virus, which is transmitted by Culex mosquitoes while feeding on birds and humans, has emerged as the dominant vector borne disease in North America. We have identified natural compounds from humans and birds, which are detected with extreme sensitivity by olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) on the antennae of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus (Cx. quinquefasciatus). One of these semiochem...
متن کاملCharacterization of antennal trichoid sensilla from female southern house mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus Say.
Culex quinquefasciatus, the southern house mosquito, is highly dependent on its olfactory system for vector-related activities such as host seeking and oviposition. The antennae are the primary olfactory organs in mosquitoes. We describe 5 morphological types of sensilla on the antenna of C. quinquefasciatus: 1) a pair of sensilla coeloconica located at the distal tip, 2) long and short sensill...
